Why, you ask, is this idjit posting a shot of his laptop and camera bag?
Well, if you look closely at the image on the monitor……Oh, wait…..let me zoom in a little for you old folks out there who have to wear spectacles……..like me.
There ya go! As you can see, I’m doing something the vast majority of computer users never do. I’m backing up my laptop to a portable hard drive. In 20 years of computing I have managed to crash so many systems and lost so much data that I finally learned my lesson.
The Western Digital Passport portable drive the girls gave me for Christmas 2 years ago was originally intended as a means of storing my photos without hogging up the hard drive in my laptop. It came with backup software pre-installed so all I had to do was plug in the USB cable, create a password, click “Run Backup” and it did all the rest. I’ve gotten into the habit of running it the first of each month when I transfer the photos I’ve shot the previous month to the portable drive for safe keeping. As a matter of fact, it just finished running!
When was the last time you backed up your system? If a self confessed idjit can do it, so can you!
and i confess, it's been a while...
ReplyDeleteGood for you, it's always a good idea to back up your drive. I do mine about once a month too. Even the best of hard drives can fail when you least expect it.
ReplyDeleteI need to do that!
ReplyDeleteI have the usb cable to a terrabyte external. I backup to 2 different drives cause I'm really paranoid about losing my data.
ReplyDeleteI have a nice size external drive but admittedly I don't back up everything as I likely should. You're inspiring me Chip!
